Which Medication Do I Chose?
There are 2 medications to pick from: Semaglutide (the active ingredient in Ozempic®/Wegovy®) and Tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro®/Zepbound®). We also have other complementary products as well that you may pair with your GLP-1 medication or take separately.
Tirzepatide is a dual-agonist GIP + GLP-1. The GLP-1 slows gastric emptying to keep you fuller for longer, and helps to control your portion sizes. The GIP reduces inflammation in the body and silences the “food noise”. It essentially stops the brain from obsessing over food and thinking about your next meal constantly.
Semaglutide is a single-agonist and only contains the GLP-1 agonist, which slows gastric emptying. If you have 40+ pounds to lose, I personally recommend Tirzepatide due to it being significantly stronger than Semaglutide. Those who have less than 40 pounds can easily go with Semaglutide. Semaglutide is an incredible medication and it is possible to lose greater than 40-50+ pounds, it just is not as rapid as Tirzepatide.
Tirzepatide also helps with autoimmune disorders such as Hashimoto’s, and has shown amazing results for helping women with PCOS due to the added GIP in the medication that reduces inflammation.
Tirzepatide has shown a reduction of 26% of your overall body weight, and Semaglutide has shown a reduction of 15% of your overall body weight. This is why Tirzepatide is typically chosen for those who have a substantial amount of weight to lose. For reference, I lost 122 pounds in 50 weeks and almost 40% of my overall body weight.
Which Helps me Lose Weight Faster?
Based on the most recent studies, Tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound) has been shown to help with faster and greater weight loss compared to Semaglutide (Ozempic/Wegovy).
Can I start on the current dosage that I’m taking?
Yes. When completing your enrollment questionnaire, please select the current dosage of medication you are utilizing. Titration or dosage increases cannot be requested until your first refill. Providers may request proof of your current medication and/or script to substantiate your dosage. The prescription needs to include the patient’s name, prescriber name, medication name, medication strength, medication dosage prescribed, and the date of the prescription.
PLEASE NOTE: The prescription provided MUST be an actual prescription. Screenshots, notes from a previous MedSpa, or prescriptions missing all of the aforementioned requirements are invalid and will not be considered when determining your dosage at Skinny Theory.
What are the Benefits of Semaglutide?
Semaglutide, known by the brand names Ozempic (for diabetes) and Wegovy (for weight loss), offers significant benefits for both weight management and overall health. One of its primary advantages is its ability to promote effective weight loss, with studies showing an average reduction of 10-15% of body weight over time. It works by suppressing appetite, slowing stomach emptying, and increasing feelings of fullness, helping users control cravings and reduce overall calorie intake. This makes it especially beneficial for individuals struggling with overeating, emotional eating, or portion control.
Beyond weight loss, semaglutide is highly effective in regulating blood sugar and improving insulin sensitivity, making it a powerful option for those with pre-diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, or insulin resistance. By lowering blood sugar levels and reducing insulin resistance, it not only helps with fat loss but also decreases the risk of developing metabolic conditions. Additionally, semaglutide has been shown to offer cardiovascular benefits, including a reduced risk of heart attacks, strokes, and high blood pressure. This is especially important for individuals with obesity, as excess weight increases the likelihood of cardiovascular disease.
Another key benefit of semaglutide is its ability to target visceral fat (fat around the organs), which is the most dangerous type of fat linked to metabolic diseases. Users often notice a reduction in waist circumference and improved body composition over time. Furthermore, many report increased energy levels, improved mood, and even a decrease in anxiety and depression symptoms, likely due to more stable blood sugar levels and reduced inflammation in the body.
What are the Benefits of Tirzepatide?
Compounded Tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro/Zepbound) is becoming an increasingly popular choice for weight loss due to its rapid and substantial fat reduction effects. Studies have shown that tirzepatide leads to greater and faster weight loss than semaglutide, with many users achieving 15-20% body weight reduction within a year. It works by targeting two key hormones—GLP-1 and GIP—rather than just GLP-1 like semaglutide. This dual action helps suppress appetite, slow digestion, improve insulin sensitivity, and enhance fat metabolism, making it one of the most powerful weight loss medications available today.
One of the biggest advantages of compounded tirzepatide is its ability to accelerate weight loss, often within the first few weeks of treatment. Users report significantly reduced cravings, increased satiety, and improved portion control, leading to a natural and sustainable decrease in calorie intake. Additionally, tirzepatide is highly effective in lowering blood sugar and improving insulin resistance, making it an excellent option for those with Type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, or metabolic syndrome. Its ability to lower A1C levels and stabilize glucose contributes to overall better metabolic health while promoting fat loss.
Another key benefit is its cardiovascular protection. Studies suggest that tirzepatide reduces the risk of heart disease by lowering inflammation, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels, making it beneficial for individuals at high cardiovascular risk. Additionally, it specifically targets stubborn visceral fat, which is the dangerous fat stored around organs that increases the risk of chronic diseases. Many users experience a noticeable reduction in waist size and overall body fat composition, which improves both aesthetics and long-term health outcomes.
